Have you ever wanted to give everything you have to help someone else, but you didn't because you felt it wouldn't be enough? That is how I felt in Otutulu. I wanted so much to do all that I could to make life better for the people there. To my surprise, I discovered that our presence there was more than enough to make them happy. The trip was long, but it was worth every mile for what waited for me in the end.

All the way there, I remember passing many villages and always thinking, “Is this it?” Each time I would see people waving and children chasing the bus. It was so exciting, but we never stopped. Finally, we reached the orphanage. I did not know what to expect, so my mind was open. Some were happy to see us, others were cautious. I too was hesitant. I wasn't exactly sure what to do or who to speak to. That is, until I found Luke. He was the first child I embraced and he was quite content being in my arms and laying his head on my shoulder.

As we proceeded to move into our new home for the next week, I was amazed at how comfortable I was in this place that didn't have any of the comforts of my home in America . It is true what they say, “Home is where the heart is.” From a very young age, God placed a burden on my heart for those less fortunate than me. I have concluded that my heart is its happiest when I have the opportunity to serve the needy. Wherever they may be, at home or abroad, my heart will find its way there.

I made many new friends in Otutulu that will stay in my memory forever. The children were beautiful. Despite what I've been shown in the media, they were happy and smiling. I am not oblivious to the fact that the people of MOM have their own struggles, but I admire the way they smile through their pain. They were grateful for every deed done and every gift given. Their faith in God was felt through their words, their interaction with us and each other and through their way of life. It is amazing what the Lord can reveal to you through other people. Because they lack the luxuries that we are accustomed to, they truly have to depend on God to supply their every need.

I am grateful to Him who gave me the opportunity to travel to Nigeria . When you desire to change the world, it is hard to lead a normal life. I wake up everyday with the hope that I can make something better for someone else. It is unfortunate that we live in a society where every man lives for himself. Everyday seems to be another opportunity for personal gain. My trip to Nigeria took me on a much further journey in spirit. My hunger for change within myself drives me to strive to be a better ambassador for Christ. I am confident that my Savior will give me the strength, wisdom and resources to save others.
